ABOUT
Our Mission Statement
Western Iberia Archaeology is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the study, promotion, and preservation of the cultural heritage of the western Iberian Peninsula.
Western Iberia Archaeology's mission is to support archaeological and historical research in Portugal and Spain. We aim to contribute toward the understanding, presentation, and preservation of cultural heritage sites in Portugal. As an integral part of this mission, we seek to organize and lead archaeological field projects and hands-on educational experiences. Our ultimate goal is to promote cultural tourism in Portugal and Iberia generally, and to make the heritage of this region more accessible.
In order to accomplish its mission, Western Iberia Archaeology collaborates with local communities and government authorities, stakeholders, academic institutions, and heritage professionals. These collaborations allow Western Iberia Archaeology to facilitate archaeological research projects, local museum exhibitions, academic and professional workshops, and volunteer events that highlight the cultural heritage of Portugal. Members of Western Iberia Archaeology are encouraged to promote the archaeology of Portugal and Iberia through both traditional academic publishing and an active web presence. Western Iberia Archaeology provides an intellectual home to students and scholars investigating the archaeological remains of ancient Iberia
